I-PASS transponders can be used at all toll plazas, including those located on entrance and exit ramps. It uses the same transponder as the E-ZPass system used in the Northeastern US and the Indiana Toll Road. I-PASS is the electronic toll collection system used by the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority that launched on Novemwith the opening of the Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355). It takes you above the traffic stops and lets you make a trip in eight minutes that would otherwise take significantly longer. The Chicago Skyway Bridge, which is the 8-mile-long connecting link between the Dan Ryan Expressway and the Indiana Toll Road. The Reagan Memorial Toll Way (I-88), which shoots out from the west-central suburbs and passes Ronald Reagan’s boyhood home of Dixon. The Jane Addams Memorial Toll Way, which coincides with I-90 and runs from Des Plaines to Rockford and on to Beloit, Wisconsin. The Veterans’ Memorial Toll Way (I-355), which runs parallel to the southern two-thirds of the Chicago Metro Area further out than the Tri-State. The Tri-State, which utilizes Interstates 94, 294, and 80 and runs along the western outskirts of “Chicagoland” all the way from Wisconsin to the Indiana border. The Skyway Toll Bridge, while privately owned and not officially a part of the Illinois toll system, is nonetheless worthy of mention below. All of these sub-systems touch the Chicago area, even if only at its edges. The Illinois toll system is 286 miles long and includes four major sub-systems.
